Current CCT Role: Project volunteer
Volunteer since: 2023
Education: Columbia Business School, Wellesley College
Professional Background: My professional background is in investment banking and asset management.
A few years ago, I shifted gears and took the leadership of our 350-unit apartment building co-op in NYC, as co-president of the board. I oversaw management, finance, capital planning, facilities as well as legal and environmental issues. It provided me with a small business-like experience as well as a broader view of running a non-profit. I bring my finance and banking skills as well as my business management experience to CCT projects.
First CCT Project: I worked on the Lower Cape TV project. The local news organization was looking for guidance to figure out their audience, determine the role of social media in their communication strategy, strengthen their fundraising and find the best way to use their new space to bring in revenues and the local community. We carried out audience surveys as well as social media analytics. We also provided them with intelligence on other comparable community TV stations, their approach to community inclusion and their fundraising/ fee models. Overall, we delivered a business analysis to assist their leadership on how to address a changing marketplace at a critical time for the organization.
What did you really like? Any big surprises? I really liked learning from other people in my team. In CCT all come with different experiences, a different knowledge base and different age groups. It is a tremendous opportunity to learn and network!
I was pleasantly surprised at how flexible the team was. There is this understanding that we all put in as much time as we have. So, if at some point in time a team member has other pressing priorities, another team member steps in. We balance things out, we know that it is volunteer work, so people must find the right way to fit it in and we all help each other to deliver quality work to our client.
How Did You Discover CCT? Through my business school alum email blast.
What does CCT offer that all the other activities which vie for your limited free time do not?
CCT gives a platform and a structure to provide meaningful impact to organizations at an important juncture point for them. The teams provide professional quality consulting work. It is not half done. And it really makes an impact as we interact at the leadership and Board level in the organization. I could see how our discussions with leadership made them think, question, and possibly redirect the organizations in ways they may not have envisioned before. So, it is really impactful! It is a truly effective use of my time.
What Don’t We Know About You?
I split my time between NYC and Boston. CCT’s hybrid model has allowed me to still volunteer. I can do remote and in person as available and as needed. It’s been wonderful to have this flexibility.
